NBCC Poetry Finalist Eleanor Ross Taylor Awarded 2010 Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize

By Eric Banks

Congratulations to Eleanor Ross Taylor, who has received the Poetry Foundation's $100,000 Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize for lifetime achievment. Her collection Captive Voices: New and Selected Poems, 1960-2008 (LSU Press) was an NBCC finalist in poetry this past year. Writing on the book in our 30 Books, 30 Days series, Kevin Prufer said: “I cannot imagine the serious reader—poet or not—who could leave Captive Voices unmoved by the work of this supremely gifted poet who skips so nimbly around our sadnesses and fears, never directly addressing them, suggesting, instead, their complex resistance to summary.” Click here to read Prufer on Eleanor Ross Taylor.
