Orhan Pamuk, Salman Rushdie, Kiran Desai et al Reading Burma

PEN is hosting a“Reading Burma,” benefit Tuesday night at Cooper Union in New York City. All proceeds go to the International Burmese Monks Organization, which is providing cyclone relief. They have also been involved in fighting for democracy and free expression in Burma.

Orhan Pamuk, Salman Rushdie, Kiran Desai, Siri Hustvedt, Joseph Lelyveld, Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro, and special guests will read work by suppressed writers from Burma/Myanmar, and George Packer will speak with the Venerable Ashin Gawsita, leader of the 2007 Monks’ Uprising.
