Hope Reese wrote a feature for The Boston Globe‘s Ideas section, based on Sherry Turkle’s new book Artificial Intimacy.

McKenzie Watson-Fore reviewed Julia Cohen’s Freak Lip: Essays of the Unsaid for Zona Motel and T.I.M. Wirkus’ A Bad Deal in Mormon Land for Barrelhouse. 

Charles Green reviewed Neil Graham and Hanna Rae’s Still, Love Remains and J. William Whitaker’s Wilderness of Folly for Blueink Review.

Kevin Anthony Brown published an essay review about From Julio: Selected Letters of Julio Cortázar, A Certain Lucas, and Hopscotch in the New English Review.

John Hay’s essay “On ‘Derek,’ Captain Ahab’s Evil Half Brother” was published in The Paris Review Daily.

For Air Mail‘s Arts Intel, Celia McGee wrote about the book Tina Barney: Fashion.

Claude Peck reviewed My Bad: A Personal History of the Queer Nineties and Beyond by Hugh Ryan for the fall print edition of Rain Taxi.

Former NBCC board member Steve Paul reviewed Dylan in Cincinnati by Graley Herren for his Substack column.  

Anne Charles reviewed Kai Marshall Green’s A Body Made Home for The Gay & Lesbian Review.

In the October issue of the Literary Review of Canada, Irina Dumitrescu reviewed Susannah M. Smith’s The Alchemy of Paradise.

Former NBCC board member and Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing recipient Scott McLemee wrote an inaugural essay about book reviewing for his new Substack, Thinking Out Loud.

Martha Anne Toll reviewed Gavin Larsen’s Infinite Steps: Thirty-Three Dancers and Their Lives in Ballet for the Pittsburgh Review of Books.

JoeAnn Hart reviewed Woman, Wolf, Carbon Capture, a fiction chapbook by Noelle Catharine Allen, for Ecolit Books.

Sullivan Summer interviewed Honorée Fanonne Jeffers on the fifth anniversary of the publication of her NBCC Award-winning novel, The Love Songs of W.E.B. DuBois, on the Additions to the Archive podcast. 

Jake Cline interviewed Patti Smith about her memoirs, poetry, song lyrics, and much more for Arsht Magazine.

Deborah Copperud launched the second season of her author interview podcast Read Minnesota Books. Guests have included Andrea Uptmor, Lina Patton, Tony Wirt, and fellow NBCC member Lori O’Dea.

NBCC Fundraising & Grants Co-Chair Tobias Carroll interviewed Vikram Chandra for Literary Hub and Grant Maierhofer for Vol. 1 Brooklyn.

Member News

The Ancillary Review of Books (edited by NBCC member Jake Casella Brookins) is looking for volunteer editors to join the team. The ARB is a non-profit magazine publishing reviews and essays about speculative fiction, with an emphasis on world literature & utopian impulses.
