Melanie Rae Thon on What to Read this Summer

by Melanie Rae Thon | Jun-07-2007

The month of June kicks off Reading the World. As part of this project, the NBCC has asked writers from around the globe to recommend a book from beyond these shores. We asked novelist and short story writer Melanie Rae Thon what she had to recommend. She came back with BARABBAS, by Swedish author Pär Lagerkvist!

"This searing novel has the elegant clarity of parable informed by a penetrating vision of history. Barabbas is the thief Pilate set free when Jesus was condemned to die. Lagerkvist's mysterious, redemptive tale is a wildly innovative explosion of Barabbas's life after his pardon."
